The Perfect Summer Date Night Dress

My poor husband rarely gets to see me dressed up.  By the time he gets home from work I have usually changed out of whatever cute outfit I wore to work that day and am back in my “playing with the kids friendly” joggers! So when we can steal an evening away from our babies I always love wearing something that isn’t going to get sticky peanut butter fingers or markers all over it… LOL! For a recent patio dinner out I wore this breezy white lace-up sundress.

It is the perfect dress for these hot summer evenings.  I always love pairing white and turquoise together and these beaded earrings gave this outfit a fun pop of colour!  It is also a treat for me to bring out the wedges when I don’t have to worry about carrying anyone and rolling an ankle… LOL!

I absolutely love Summer and sunshine! We have so many amazing restaurants where we live and I am slowly making my way through my “Must Eat at this Summer” list.  Would you be interested in reading about my favourite local spots? Leave me a message in the comments 🙂 Hope you all get to soak up some sunshine this week!

Summer Shoes for the Every Girl!

I am absolutely obsessed with cute sandals right now.  My husband recently asked me “Do you think you have enough pairs of slides?” I can only assume this question was rhetorical… LOL!  I basically have 3 categories of Summer shoes that I am living in right now:

Slides– for everyday when I am out and about with my kids

Low Block Heels– a comfortable, yet dressier option of footwear for my office

Wedges– when I get to go out with my husband or girlfriends (who doesn’t love longer looking legs?!)

I thought it would be fun to round-up some of my favourite, reasonably priced footwear right now 🙂

I started a new series on my blog a couple weeks ago called ‘My Best Friends Style Series’. If you missed reading about my gorgeous bestie Amber you can do so here.

People naturally gravitate towards her.  It is actually super annoying as I am constantly trying to defend my title as her bff… there is always someone who wants to take my place… LOL! Her sense of style completely matches her personality… classy and FUN!  Her wardrobe is a mix of classic and trendy pieces and she is always dressed completely on point for whatever the occassion.

Christine’s Style Staples:

Lots of stripes

Dresses that can transition from day to-night

Christine is our boss babe. She works in human resources by day, so her classy and professional style always carries over to her outside of work looks.  She is seriously the life of the party.  So a huge component of her personal style is work wear that can transition from the office to going out for dinner with a group of friends afterwards, with a quick shoe or accessory change.

I have rounded up a bunch of Christine-style pieces below if you love her look and are wanting some inspiration:

Best Friends Style Series: Amber!

I started this blog because I wanted to be able to share what I love.  One of the things I hold nearest and dearest to my heart is my girlfriends! I am blessed to have a phenomenal group of women in my life.  They each have an amazing and very defined sense of style.  I thought it would be fun to start a new blog series featuring each of my girlfriends and their particular sense of fashion.  Talk about where they each love to shop, trends they like and share looks they are loving for Spring and Summer.  I pride myself on being completely authentic and hopefully very relatable to the every girl (like myself!)  I try to keep the clothing and items I link very reasonably priced… things that are actually affordable.  I figured what is more genuine then sharing my real friends and their everyday style.  I’m starting off this series with my gorgeous best friend Amber.  She is one of the absolute gems in my life.  She is as kind as she is beautiful and without a doubt, absolutely fabulous!

Amber’s Style Staples:

  • Coloured/ textured skinny pants & jeans
  • Fitted pencil skirts
  • Heels. Always
  • Blousy, flowy tanks & tops
  • Colours, patterns but absolutely no floral (trust me, I have tried!)
  • Accessories: Fabulous hats, earrings, rings the works.  This girl is always accessorized!

Sangria Popsicles!

We threw my son’s first birthday party a couple of weekends ago.  I felt that I needed to make my girlfriends something yummy to drink to thank them for coming to celebrate with us on a beautiful, sunny Summer Saturday so I whipped up a big batch of pink sangria.  Being as it was a huge bowl that we were not able to get through, there was a bit leftover so I decided to turn it into “adult popsicles!”

Sangria Ingredients:

  • Bottle of Wine
  • 3 cups of Vodka
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 4 cups of water (to cut some of the sweetness)
  • 2 cans of lemon Sanpellegrino- I like it to have a bit of fizz
  • 1 frozen can of juice (I used Strawberry Fruitpoia because that is what I had in my freezer!)

(Please remember this made a GIANT punchbowl full of Sangria!)

Directions:

  • Place all of your berries in a bowl & pour vodka overtop (I like to leave my fruit to soak overnight in the fridge)
  • In a large punch bowl (or pitcher) pour in the wine
  • Add fruit mixture & vodka to your bowl
  • Pour in frozen juice, water & sanpellegrino
  • Stir to mix all the yumminess together & enjoy over ice!

I’ve found that sangria will usually keep for up to 48 hours in the fridge, but in this case I had just enough to pour it into 6 popsicle molds…. They were delicious and super simple to make!  The only tricky part was explaining to my children why they couldn’t eat “Mommy’s popsicles”… lol!

Dark Floral Dresses

Happy Monday everyone!  Starting this week off by talking about one of my favourite purchases from this summer, this black floral maxi dress.  I have always thought of floral prints to be traditionally an exclusive of Spring and Summer,  but as of late I have noticed darker floral prints seem to be appearing more and more.  This is a trend I can definitely jump on board with!  I adore floral print anything, so the idea of being able to continue wearing it into the upcoming cooler seasons definitely excites me!  I find with the dark background it can give the print a bit of edginess while still looking feminine.  I wore this dress all summer with sandals and open toed heels, but now plan to switch it up for Fall with a cute pair of ankle boots and a cozy cardigan.

Blushing

This soft, baby pink is one of my favourite colours to wear right now.  To be honest I love most shades of pink, I’m not discriminatory… lol.  Lately though, I have noticed this pretty blush colour starting to creep into my closet more and more!  This particular skirt is so easy to wear.  It is light weight, breezy and super feminine.  The price is nice too :))  I have linked my particular outfit below as well as few other great items in this pretty pink if you are looking to add some blush to your summer lineup!

Mixing up a Kentucky Mule!

My husband recently returned from a work trip.  When I asked what the best part of his trip was, he told me that it was being introduced to the Kentucky Mule… not exactly the response I was expecting!  I thought he might actually mention something work related… lol!  Neither of us had heard of this drink before.  A Kentucky Mule is a take on the popular and delicious Moscow Mule which I was already well acquainted with ;))  It is a super refreshing drink that consists of ginger beer, lime, mint and vodka.  To switch it from a Moscow to a Kentucky, all you have to do is substitute Bourbon for Vodka.

Kentucky Mule

Ingredients:

  • Ginger beer
  • Lime
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Bourbon (it’s a Kentucky Mule after all)
  • IceKentucky Mule

Directions:

Throw some mint leaves and 1/2 of a lime into a shaker and muddle together

Add ice, along with 1 oz to 1 1/2 oz of bourbon, then give a good shake to mix all those flavours together

Pour into a copper mug

Add 4 to 5 oz of your favourite chilled ginger beer

Garnish with a few mint leaves and a lime wedge

Hopefully you have a chance to enjoy this delicious & refreshing drink this summer!
