I absolutely love a good theme! Every year my girlfriends and I get together for an Academy Awards viewing party. What started up as an evening of glamour eventually turned into a competition for who could find the most “beautiful” gown… and when I say beautiful, I mean garish… In fact, we now have a collection of dresses we will promptly change anyone who dares to show up in an actual stunning dress!
Everyone fills out a Ballot with their predictions. We print these off of the Oscar website HERE. We have prizes for first, second, third place. Of course there is also a prize at our party for “best” dressed!
We have accumulated our decorations over the years. There is always a red carpet for the girls to pose on, statues to have our photos with and lots of yummy food. Most of the decorations have been hand crafted or purchased from Turkey’s Party Makers or Party City.
This party has become one of my very favourite traditions with my girlfriends 🙂 It is so fun to just get dressed up with my girls and have a lot of laughs. We are already keeping our eyes out for the perfect dresses for next year!
Good morning everyone! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas with you loved ones. Ours was chaotic and crazy, but in the best possible way 🙂 Of course after Christmas comes New Years… and I don’t know about you, but I LOVE getting dressed up for New Years Eve! There is always a part of me that thinks perhaps I am getting a bit too old to be wearing these Vegas inspired sequined dresses.. but then I choose to ignore that practical part of me and pick out the cutest one possible… LOL!
In my mind, NYE and sequins go together like peanut butter & jelly, but I have forced myself to be open to other fabulous options as well… 😉 I have found a handful of really pretty and reasonably priced dresses if you are still on the hunt for something fun to wear this New Years, or any other night that you want to shine!
We threw my son’s 1st Birthday party a few weeks before he actually turned one. I promised my husband I would keep it simple this year… (Apparently I have a tendency to go overboard… lol!) Both my boys are summer babies which is fantastic because it makes it easy to have a pool or beach party and keep the chaos outside! This post is for the parents like myself that cannot necessarily afford to purchase lavish cakes, decorations and catering for their parties. Absolutely no offence to anyone who does, it is just not in my budget! Trust me, I love reading about and seeing pictures of the extravagant parties! I just wanted to share some pictures from his birthday to show that you can throw a cute Do It Yourself party without spending a fortune. The kids had a blast which is really the most important part right?!
We call him our little Beast, so I decided to go with a Monster theme this year:
Disclaimer: this wasn’t how I originally planned the cake to look, however icing the cake in 30 degree weather proved a little difficult and it started to melt a bit… lol!
Crafts for the kids… Build a monster! Free printable from somewhat simple.
Photo booth props that I ordered from Etsy (also used these to decorate the monster punch & anything else that needed eyes or a scary mouth!
Mini monster jello. Plastic cups & eye stickers from the Dollar Store
I made this Monster ONE sign with some crafts from the Dollar Store & Michaels
