Fall Ponchos!

I am really loving ponchos (also referred to as capes or wraps) for Fall!  Such a fun and cozy alternative to simply throwing on a sweater.  They give you that layer of extra warmth, while still looking very chic!  These wraps can have a bit of a vintage or rustic feel to them which I love!  Ponchos are super easy to style and you can wear them over practically anything: jeans, leggings, dresses.  If this is a new trend to you, grab one in a neutral colour that goes with everything.  You will be surprised by how much use you will actually get out of it 🙂  I get more compliments whenever I wear this plaid one below.

A Visit to the Pumpkin Patch!

I absolutely love taking our kids to the Pumpkin Patch!  We  probably go at least 5 or 6 times every year.  Our first trip this year was to the Port Kells Nursery.  This is one of my favourite patches to visit, as there is so much for the kids to do there besides just picking out their pumpkins.  Another great part is that it is totally free to go to, with the exception of taking a hayride.  The charge for this is $5.00 (under 3 years is free) which the nursery will redeem towards the purchase of a pumpkin or plants.  We easily spend a couple of hours each time we visit.  A bonus feature of this particular nursery is that a few of the attractions are inside, because lets face it, Fall in B.C. usually involves a decent amount of rain… lol!  I only discovered this nursery a couple of years ago, so I wanted to share it in case you live in the area and are looking for somewhere new and fun to try 🙂

Midi Coats

It is no secret that I love midi length everything!  I find it to be such a flattering and functional length for clothing.  The midi coat was popular last Fall but I feel like is going to be much more mainstream this year.  This length of coat falls just below your knees, basically mid calf, which makes sense as to why it’s called midi length.  I find it has almost a bit of a retro feel and can easily be dressed up or down.  I tend to wear a lot of tunics and long sweaters in the fall, so I like this length of jacket because then my clothing isn’t hanging out the bottom of my coat (and it keeps your bottom warm in the chilly months.. lol!)

The Five Styles of Boots You Need For This Fall!

It goes without saying that one of my favourite parts of Fall is the fashion.  I love cozy cardigans and sweaters over leggings or distressed denim with a fun scarf and a great pair of boots.  Fabulous boots can make your entire outfit.  In fact, I sometimes outfit plan around my footwear… lol!  There are no shortage of amazing boots right now and it can be a little overwhelming if you are shoe obsessed like myself!  I have managed to narrow it down to five styles I feel you are going to be seeing a ton of this Fall:

Over the Knee Boots

I purchased a couple great pairs of OTK boots last year so I am thrilled to see they are still everywhere again this year!  This style of boot has been updated so it is a little less Pretty Woman and much more elegant and chic now!  So many different heel heights and fabrics to choose from to keep your look casual or to dress it up.

Over The Knee Boots

one.  //  two.  //  three.  //  four.  //  five.  //  six.  //  seven.  //  eight.

Lace Up Utility Boots

The chunky block heel and platform on some of these combat style of boots give them a bit of a dressier look.  These boots are super cute and definitely have a bit of edginess to them.  I personally think it would be fun to pair this more utility style of footwear with something super feminine!

Studded Buckle Booties

I love the details on these moto inspired booties!  The low heel makes them really easy to wear and the studding and buckles add a really fun element to the otherwise plain black.  They would look super cute with jeans or a little leather skirt!

Floral and Embroidered Ankle Boots

Keeping with the flowered embroidery trend that was everywhere this year, floral has continued into Fall footwear.  There are so many adorable embroidered or floral booties for sale right now.  Definitely a statement piece and I absolutely love them!  I do not own a pair yet, but will definitely be putting them at the top of my wish list!

Slouchy

80’s and 90’s Fashion has been making a huge comeback for the last couple years so it was only a matter of time until slouch boots showed up again! (I used to own the sweetest pair of white leather one in school… lol!)  The boots I have been noticing this year have a more subtle slouch then the ones that I once wore though!

What do you think of these different boot styles for Fall 2017?  I cannot wait to try them out 🙂

A Wardrobe Staple: Shirt Dresses!

I cannot resist a cute shirt dress!  One of the things that is appealing to me is the fact I can look a little dressed up while feeling super comfortable at the same time.  I always think of shirt dresses as one of the perfect transition pieces to take me from Summer to Fall.  The weather still is warm enough for bare legs but not quite hot enough for bare shoulders.  When I’m running around with the kids I will wear one with a cute pair of slides or ballet flats and then throw it on with a pair of ankle boots when I can slow my pace to a walk… lol!  Shirt dresses look really stylish on their own, or I also love them as a layering piece under a long cardigan with some over the knee boots.  Definitely a look I will be wearing a ton this Fall!

Apple Picking!

I love summer so much but one of the things I enjoy about the beginning of Fall is taking the kids apple picking 🙂  We are lucky enough to have a couple local farms to choose from.  Our first trip this year was to Willow View Farms.  We actually managed to get there on opening day for apples and plums.  It is such a fun place to visit.  There is the cutest little general store where you can get delicious apple cider slushies, pies, syrups, fresh corn, potatoes, adorable crocheted toques and so on!  Later into the fall there is a petting zoo,  hayrides and a pumpkin patch that opens so you can guarantee this won’t be our last trip of the season.  We usually visit quite a few times as the kids love running around, picking their own fruit (and later choosing their pumpkins), feeding the chickens and petting all the animals!  It is a great place for a family outing, you can easily make a day of it.  There is a covered picnic area where you can bring lunch and a big climb on play area for kids.  I love this farm because it is family run and you do not have to pay any sore of admission to get in, you just pay for the fruit you pick.

*Update: Since I wrote this post, Willow View Farms actually had a devastating fire that destroyed their country store and cooler building!! They have managed to reopen for U-pick, but if you are thinking about visiting I would recommend checking out their website for updates!  Wishing them a speedy rebuild!  They can probably use local support now more than ever 🙂

Dark Floral Dresses

Happy Monday everyone!  Starting this week off by talking about one of my favourite purchases from this summer, this black floral maxi dress.  I have always thought of floral prints to be traditionally an exclusive of Spring and Summer,  but as of late I have noticed darker floral prints seem to be appearing more and more.  This is a trend I can definitely jump on board with!  I adore floral print anything, so the idea of being able to continue wearing it into the upcoming cooler seasons definitely excites me!  I find with the dark background it can give the print a bit of edginess while still looking feminine.  I wore this dress all summer with sandals and open toed heels, but now plan to switch it up for Fall with a cute pair of ankle boots and a cozy cardigan.
