Fall Trends: Velvet

I have to confess, I have been slow to get on board with the velvet trend.  In fact, I flat-out ignored it last year and secretly hoped it would go away… lol!  I don’t know what it is about this Fall, but I am finding myself totally drawn to it now.  Do I dare say I’m “crushing” on velvet?!? (Ha ha, see what I did there?)  My first velvet purchase this year was a simple black dress to subtly try out the trend.  I am completely hooked… I love it all now!  Velvet booties, clutches and all of the beautiful colours and styles it is available in!  I just even recently purchased my six-year-old the cutest little velvet dress to match me… lol!

Fall 2017 Fashion Trends For Him

When the weather starts to cool, the nights get darker a bit earlier and my children start to crunch the leaves on the ground, it all means one thing… Fall is inevitable!  I am a summer lover and am always sad to see it end, but one of the things I do love about Fall is the clothing (and Pumpkin Spice everything!!!)  I sometimes feel like the men get a bit ripped off when it comes to fashion, as us women have so much variety in our wardrobes.  This Fall may be the exception though… the clothing for men is looking pretty fun!  Below I have summarized a few of the trends I believe you are going to be noticing in men’s fashion this Fall.  Now it is up to you guys to see how adventurous you are feeling 🙂

Quilted Coats:

This isn’t a new trend but will still be going strong for this Fall.  I think we will notice more colourful options as opposed to the standard black and grey.  Such a warm and stylish option for outerwear!

Quilted.jpgOne: Black Diamond Quilted Jacket *   Two: Burgundy Quilted Jacket *  Three: Midnight Blue Quilted Jacket

Fur Collared Jackets:

I love the look of faux fur or shearling on the coat collar!  Adds some interest and texture to the jackets.

FurOne: Flight Jacket with Faux Fur Collar  * Two: Olive Faux Shearling Jacket  * Three: Faux Shearling Camel Jacket

Graphic Sweaters:

Graphic shirts have been everywhere this year.  The graphic T-shirts from Spring & Summer will continue and be transitioning into fun knitwear for the cooler months.

graphicsweaterOne: Parachute Sweater *  Two: Alien Sweater *  Three: Motel Sweater

Turtleneck Sweaters:

Again turtlencks are not a new Fall trend, but this year the collars are a bit thicker and more exaggerated than some past years.  A cold weather classic.

TurtleneckSweaterOne: Wool-Blend Turtleneck * Two: Cotton-Blend Turtleneck * Three: Chunky Knit Turtleneck

90’s inspired:

Retro has been huge the last couple of seasons.  This year is no exception and 90’s style sweatshirts are popping up everywhere!

90sInspiredOne: Vintage Fila * Two: Tommy Hilfiger Crew Neck * Three: Adidas Original

Corduroy:

Not just the usual shirts and pants, but entire tailored, corduroy suits will be making an appearance this season.

cordsOne: Pigment Dyed Shirt *  Two: Modern Fit Pants * Three: Corduroy Blazer

Foliage Colours:

Clothing this Fall will be coloured the same as the leaves falling from the trees.  Lots of camel, moss & olive-green and bright orange will be huge this year.

FoliageOne: Thermal Crew-Neck *  Two: Olive Chino * Three: Camel V-Neck Sweater

Silk Shirts:

A continuation of the vibrant prints from this summer will be continuing into Fall. (Think Bruno Mars 24K Magic!)  You can add a pop of interest with the collar sticking out from underneath a sweater or worn with a basic suit.

silkshirtOne: Tropical Foliage * Two: Scalloped Seashells * Three: Polka Dot

What do you think of these Fall 2017 trends for men?  I think that they are pretty interesting! Some classic and others a bit more out there.  Looking forward to seeing if my predictions come true!

On Monday I started my segment on the Pantone Colour predictions for Fall 2017.  I touched on four of the forecasted colours so far: Grenadine, Tawny Port, Ballet Slipper and Butterum.  Today I am talking about Navy Peony and Neutral Gray.  These two colours are guaranteed to be in my personal clothing lineup for this fall!

PANTONE 19-4029 Navy Peony

A mainstay for the season for both palettes, Navy Peony is a dependable and an anchoring shade. Solid and stable, the hue takes some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral. (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Navy Peony

  1. Satin Midi Skirt  //  2. Fitted Jacket //  3. Cardigan  //  4. Linen Blend Scarf  // 5. Ankle Boot  //  6. Bell Cuff Sweater  //  7. Lace Dress

PANTONE 17-4402 Neutral Gray

The standard bearer of all neutrals, Neutral Gray shares the anchoring role with Navy Peony in this palette. It can be used as an accent or a head-to-toe statement shade. (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Neutral Grey

  1. Scarf  //  2. Cold Shoulder Sweater  //  3. Skinny Jeans  //  4. Bell Sleeve Sweater Dress  //  5. Ankle Boot  //  6. Rib Knit Cardigan  //  7. Open Front Cardigan

See you tomorrow for Shaded Spruce and Golden Lime!

PANTONE 13-2808 Ballet Slipper

Descended from the Red family but with a softer touch, Ballet Slipper is always flattering and reminiscent of the rosy glow of health. (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Ballet Slipper

  1. Fine-knit Sweater  //  2. Cold Shoulder Sweater  //  3. Purse  //  4. Pleated Dress  //  5.  Skinny Jeans  //  6. Scarf  //  7. Faux Fur Coat

(I picked up number 2. during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I have my eye on number 7. …. lol)

PANTONE 16-1341 Butterum

This snug, warming, and toasty shade is evocative of drinking a glass of Butterrum by a roaring fire on a cool autumn evening.  (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Butterum

  1. Merino wool Sweater  //  2.  Striped Dress  //  3. Felt Hat  //   4. Joggers  //  5. Ankle Boot  //  6. Sweater  //  7. Slide Loafer

Colour Predictions for Fall 2017

One thing that stands out vividly in my memory from when I took my Fashion Forecasting program was Pantone’s colour predictions. The Pantone Institute will predict their top 10 colours for fashion in the upcoming season, based on what is seen at New York Fashion Week.  Below are the colours they have chosen for Fall 2017.

pantonte

(Image courtesy of the Pantone website)

I personally feel the forecasted colour palette is absolutely gorgeous!  Ballet slipper is a continuation of the beautiful blush colour that I was crushing on all summer.  I love to dress colourfully so I am excited to see shades like Grenadine, Shaded Spruce and Marina in the lineup.  Brown tones do not look great on me due to my colouring so I tend to gravitate more towards the grays as far as neutrals.  That being said, Butterum and Autumn Maple are still very attractive colours for those who are fortunate enough to wear them.

I have collected some articles of clothing and accessories in all of these colours if you are wanting to introduce any of them into your existing wardrobe for this Fall!  I will be posting two of the colour trends each day this week so make sure you check back 🙂

PANTONE 17-1558 Grenadine

“A powerful, evocative, dynamic red, Grenadine is a confident and self-assured attention-getter.” (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Grenadine

  1. Drop Earrings  // 2. Long Cardigan  // 3. Wrap dress  // 4. Blazer  // 5. Boatneck Sweater  // 6. Trousers  //   7. Kate Spade Tote  // 8. Loafer

PANTONE 19-1725 Tawny Port

“Taking the Red family to new depths, Tawny Port is elegant, sophisticated, and tasteful.” (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Tawny Port

  1. Dress  // 2. Rib-knit Cardigan  // 3. Sweatshirt Dress  // 4.  Nylon Kate Spade Tote  // 5.  Cold Shoulder Sweater//  6.  Wool Blend Coat  // 7. Hooded Parka  // 8. Sateen Knee High Boot

I will be back tomorrow with my finds for the next two colours: Ballet Slipper and Butterum!
