Tie-Dyeing!

My step daughter is hilarious.  She is constantly asking me if we can make things that she has heard about from friends or seen demonstrated in a You Tube Video.  One week she will be begging me to make homemade slime, the next it will be flip-flops out of hot glue or sponge bombs?!

I feel like I am constantly saying no because the list of ingredients needed is so ridiculous.  She came home from Art Camp this summer and had made a tie-dye pillowcase.  She loved it!  I decided this was one experiment I could get behind so off to Michaels we went to purchase a kit.

FullSizeRender

I am notoriously bad for not following instructions… if it is too complicated sometimes I just cannot be bothered.  (Do not ever ask me to assemble IKEA furniture! My brain would explode… lol!)  This project was thankfully super simple and she could basically do it by herself without me having to do it all for her 🙂

  1. Wash the T-shirt before you begin (we decided to apply while the shirt was still wet)
  2. Add water to the marked line on the bottle and shake well
  3. Choose which pattern you wish to do from the instruction sheet provided (or the internet), place rubber bands where indicated for your pattern & apply the dye being careful not to oversaturate or the colours will run together
  4. Wrap in plastic wrap for at least 6 hours
  5. Rinse well & wash separately in the washing machine
  6. Start rocking your sweet 70’s style T-shirt!!!

Of course she wanted me to make one as well.  I think they turned out great and she loves it!  She actually gets a ton of compliments when she wears her tie-dyed shirts (she has a few different ones now!)  This was a relatively inexpensive and easy craft to do if you are looking for something fun to do with your kids 🙂  I see a collection of tie-dyed bags, shirts and whatever she can get her hands on in my future…. lol!  I also have a sneaking suspicion what we will be giving out as Christmas gifts this year 😉

Fall 2017 Fashion Trends For Him

When the weather starts to cool, the nights get darker a bit earlier and my children start to crunch the leaves on the ground, it all means one thing… Fall is inevitable!  I am a summer lover and am always sad to see it end, but one of the things I do love about Fall is the clothing (and Pumpkin Spice everything!!!)  I sometimes feel like the men get a bit ripped off when it comes to fashion, as us women have so much variety in our wardrobes.  This Fall may be the exception though… the clothing for men is looking pretty fun!  Below I have summarized a few of the trends I believe you are going to be noticing in men’s fashion this Fall.  Now it is up to you guys to see how adventurous you are feeling 🙂

Quilted Coats:

This isn’t a new trend but will still be going strong for this Fall.  I think we will notice more colourful options as opposed to the standard black and grey.  Such a warm and stylish option for outerwear!

Quilted.jpgOne: Black Diamond Quilted Jacket *   Two: Burgundy Quilted Jacket *  Three: Midnight Blue Quilted Jacket

Fur Collared Jackets:

I love the look of faux fur or shearling on the coat collar!  Adds some interest and texture to the jackets.

FurOne: Flight Jacket with Faux Fur Collar  * Two: Olive Faux Shearling Jacket  * Three: Faux Shearling Camel Jacket

Graphic Sweaters:

Graphic shirts have been everywhere this year.  The graphic T-shirts from Spring & Summer will continue and be transitioning into fun knitwear for the cooler months.

graphicsweaterOne: Parachute Sweater *  Two: Alien Sweater *  Three: Motel Sweater

Turtleneck Sweaters:

Again turtlencks are not a new Fall trend, but this year the collars are a bit thicker and more exaggerated than some past years.  A cold weather classic.

TurtleneckSweaterOne: Wool-Blend Turtleneck * Two: Cotton-Blend Turtleneck * Three: Chunky Knit Turtleneck

90’s inspired:

Retro has been huge the last couple of seasons.  This year is no exception and 90’s style sweatshirts are popping up everywhere!

90sInspiredOne: Vintage Fila * Two: Tommy Hilfiger Crew Neck * Three: Adidas Original

Corduroy:

Not just the usual shirts and pants, but entire tailored, corduroy suits will be making an appearance this season.

cordsOne: Pigment Dyed Shirt *  Two: Modern Fit Pants * Three: Corduroy Blazer

Foliage Colours:

Clothing this Fall will be coloured the same as the leaves falling from the trees.  Lots of camel, moss & olive-green and bright orange will be huge this year.

FoliageOne: Thermal Crew-Neck *  Two: Olive Chino * Three: Camel V-Neck Sweater

Silk Shirts:

A continuation of the vibrant prints from this summer will be continuing into Fall. (Think Bruno Mars 24K Magic!)  You can add a pop of interest with the collar sticking out from underneath a sweater or worn with a basic suit.

silkshirtOne: Tropical Foliage * Two: Scalloped Seashells * Three: Polka Dot

What do you think of these Fall 2017 trends for men?  I think that they are pretty interesting! Some classic and others a bit more out there.  Looking forward to seeing if my predictions come true!

Dark Floral Dresses

Happy Monday everyone!  Starting this week off by talking about one of my favourite purchases from this summer, this black floral maxi dress.  I have always thought of floral prints to be traditionally an exclusive of Spring and Summer,  but as of late I have noticed darker floral prints seem to be appearing more and more.  This is a trend I can definitely jump on board with!  I adore floral print anything, so the idea of being able to continue wearing it into the upcoming cooler seasons definitely excites me!  I find with the dark background it can give the print a bit of edginess while still looking feminine.  I wore this dress all summer with sandals and open toed heels, but now plan to switch it up for Fall with a cute pair of ankle boots and a cozy cardigan.

Happy Friday everyone!  This is the fifth and last day of my week long posts on the Pantone Fashion Colour predictions for Fall 2017.  I hope that you enjoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed researching and writing them!  Monday I shared my finds for Grenadine and Tawny Port, Tuesday was Ballet Slipper and Butterum, Wednesday featured Navy Peony and Neutral Gray and Thursday  I looked at Shaded Spruce and Lime.  Today I will explore the last two shades: Marina and Autumn Maple.

PANTONE 17-4041 Marina

Cool with an enhanced vitality, Marina is the only truly cool color in the fall palette that brings with it freshness and brightness.  (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Marina

  1. Bell Sleeve Sweater  //  2. Quilted Leather Mini Bag  //  3. Strands Necklace  //  4. Cashmere Cardigan  //  5. Stirrup Leggings  //  6. Open Wrap Cardigan

PANTONE 17-1145 Autumn Maple

A quintessential autumn color, Autumn Maple is tawny and russet, introducing warmth into the palette.  (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Autumn Maple

  1. Backless Loafer  //  2. Cardigan  //  3. Boatneck Sweater  //  4. Cold Shoulder Midi Dress  //  5. Faux Leather Skirt  //  6. Stripe Leather Tote  //  7. Leather Gloves

What do you think of the ten forecasted colours?  I personally think that they are beautiful!  I am excited to see that quite a bit of bright colour will be continuing into Fall 2017.  I always hate the end of summer, but building my wardrobe for the upcoming season eases the pain a bit… lol.

This is the fourth day of my segment on the Pantone colour predictions for Fall 2017.  Monday I shared my finds for Grenadine and Tawny Port, Tuesday was Ballet Slipper and Butterum and Wednesday featured Navy Peony and Neutral Gray.  Today I will be talking about Shaded Spruce and Golden Lime:

PANTONE 19-4524 Shaded Spruce

This is a green you might see in the forest – sheltering and protective as evergreen trees. (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Colour Predictions for Fall 2017 Part 3

pantonte

(Image Courtesy of the Pantone website)

On Monday I started my segment on the Pantone Colour predictions for Fall 2017.  I touched on four of the forecasted colours so far: Grenadine, Tawny Port, Ballet Slipper and Butterum.  Today I am talking about Navy Peony and Neutral Gray.  These two colours are guaranteed to be in my personal clothing lineup for this fall!

PANTONE 19-4029 Navy Peony

A mainstay for the season for both palettes, Navy Peony is a dependable and an anchoring shade. Solid and stable, the hue takes some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral. (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Navy Peony

  1. Satin Midi Skirt  //  2. Fitted Jacket //  3. Cardigan  //  4. Linen Blend Scarf  // 5. Ankle Boot  //  6. Bell Cuff Sweater  //  7. Lace Dress

PANTONE 17-4402 Neutral Gray

The standard bearer of all neutrals, Neutral Gray shares the anchoring role with Navy Peony in this palette. It can be used as an accent or a head-to-toe statement shade. (Description courtesy of the Pantone website.)

Neutral Grey

  1. Scarf  //  2. Cold Shoulder Sweater  //  3. Skinny Jeans  //  4. Bell Sleeve Sweater Dress  //  5. Ankle Boot  //  6. Rib Knit Cardigan  //  7. Open Front Cardigan

See you tomorrow for Shaded Spruce and Golden Lime!

Thank you for reading!
